The Equity Brief for California Community Colleges is a resource that examines mental health disparities among diverse student populations, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, first-generation students, and students with disabilities, based on data from the Spring 2022 Healthy Minds Study. It highlights mental health needs, treatment access, and help-seeking attitudes among community college students and offers insights into addressing inequities.

How College Professionals Can Use It:

  • Program Development: Identify underserved student groups and tailor mental health initiatives to meet their unique needs.
  • Policy Reform: Use findings to guide structural changes for equitable mental health support.
  • Training and Awareness: Educate staff and faculty on the cultural and systemic barriers to help-seeking.
  • Collaboration: Partner with student organizations and community groups to create inclusive mental health programs.
  • Advocacy: Support institutional goals by integrating equity-focused mental health strategies into broader campus equity plans.

This brief serves as a foundational tool for fostering equity in mental health services across California community colleges.
