The public charge rule, which will be enforced starting Feb. 24, 2020, allows immigration officials to deny green cards (among other visas) if they suspect applicants could possibly use government benefits in the future. Available in multiple languages and with clear prompts and answers, the website tools pose a series of questions that help immigrants to understand how using public benefits may affect immigration status (their own or that of a friend or family member), which benefits are safe to use, and when and how to seek legal advice.
